Poached Pears with Bay Salted Caramel
Autumn, 'season of mists and mellow fruitfulness', is upon us again. The damp air smells of wood smoke and leaves turning to vivid shades of russet and gold. While I struggle with the nights drawing in, I embrace the cosiness of layers and the return of comfort food. A time to make the most of the new seasons' bounty, as orchard fruits, nuts, vibrant pumpkins, wild mushrooms and root vegetables are all in abundance.
It's also a time to clear out the cupboards. Mine are deep and narrow, packets and jars easily forgotten in their depths. I recycle old tea towels and organise pots, pans and trays into some semblance of order. In the past I would end up buying new cookware, the cheap tins and pans purchased from discount homeware stores would end up bent and buckled with constant use. I eventually realised that this was a false economy and began to invest in quality cookware. As with kitchen knives, a decent set of saucepans will last you many years.
The two saucepans featured in this post are part of the Robert Welch Campden 3 Piece Saucepan Set featuring their bestselling 1.38L, 2.2L and 3.2L saucepans. Constructed from superior quality 18/10 stainless steel, the base of each pan features tri-layering technology, a copper core sandwiched between 2 layers of stainless steel, allowing for even and efficient heat distribution across the whole base and eliminating hot spots during cooking. Each saucepan has cool touch handles, is suitable for all cooking methods including induction, dishwasher safe and guaranteed for 25 years. It may seem a little early to be thinking about the festive season, but I would definitely recommend adding these to your Christmas wish list.
My latest recipe for Robert Welch uses their cookware to celebrate the simple joy of a poached pear. Undeniably wonderful served just with a jug of fresh cream, but utterly divine with this fresh bay scented salted caramel sauce. Click here for the recipe - Poached Pears with Bay Salted Caramel
